Angeles City government expresses condolences over death of pedestrian in drainage incident

The Angeles City Government has expressed its condolences to the family of Reinster Novero, the 25-year-old pedestrian who died after falling into a damaged drainage canal along the Fil-Am Friendship Highway in Angeles City on August 28.

In a statement sent to CLTV36 News on September 2, the city government said it is extending direct assistance to Novero’s family following the incident.

Local officials are also conducting an investigation in coordination with the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) to verify the circumstances surrounding the accident and assess the condition of the drainage system and safety measures in the area.

The city government said it will refrain from making premature conclusions while the investigation is ongoing.

Meanwhile, the City Engineer’s Office has inspected and secured the site to help ensure public safety and prevent similar incidents.

The city government also reminded the public to report hazards involving public infrastructure—such as missing or damaged drainage covers—to the appropriate government agencies, including the DPWH, rather than taking unauthorized action that could further compromise public safety.

The incident happened amid heavy rains in Angeles City, when Novero reportedly fell into the open drainage canal and later died. #
