320 Barangays in Central Luzon Not Yet Drug-Cleared: DILG-III

Central Luzon, Philippines – The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), in collaboration with various government agencies, continues to implement programs aimed at eradicating illegal drugs. In Central Luzon, only 320 out of 3,000 barangays remain uncleared of illegal drugs.

According to DILG Region 3 Director Atty. Anthony Nuyda, this achievement is a result of the department’s ongoing anti-drug campaign in partnership with other government agencies. In an interview with CLTV36 News, Nuyda emphasized the importance of community involvement in these efforts.

“Continuous efforts are in place through our Regional Oversight Committee involving the PNP, DILG, and barangay officials,” said Nuyda. “Programs against illegal drugs, advocacy, and community-based rehabilitation are crucial. The barangays that remain uncleared are often densely populated and have significant challenges. However, with collective effort from our youth, barangay officials, PNP, PDEA, and everyone, we can definitely clear these areas.”

Meanwhile, the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) in Central Luzon has previously stated that local government units (LGUs) need to improve their drug rehabilitation programs. Nuyda encourages community-based rehabilitation for minor drug cases, highlighting its importance in the overall strategy.

“We encourage LGUs to utilize community-based rehabilitation for minor cases,” Nuyda added. “It is very important. Currently, our LGUs are continuing their programs, and I hope they are effectively addressing the needs.”

The efforts of DILG and its partners demonstrate a committed approach to making Central Luzon drug-free. With continued support and cooperation from the community and local officials, the goal of clearing all barangays of illegal drugs remains within reach.
