Third Candaba Viaduct on NLEX expected to open by late 2024
The Third Candaba Viaduct along the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) is on track for completion, with 92% of the construction already finished. The new viaduct is expected to fully open by late 2024, just in time for the anticipated holiday surge in traffic.
According to NLEX Corporation President and General Manager J. Luigi Bautista, the five-kilometer infrastructure stretch between Pulilan, Bulacan, and Apalit, Pampanga is progressing smoothly. With sections already operational, Bautista expressed confidence in hitting the target dates for opening the remaining parts.
The first two kilometers of the southbound lane, located in Pulilan (Zone 1), are already accessible to motorists. The remaining sections, Zone 2 and Zone 3 in Apalit, are scheduled to open in September and November 2024, respectively.
NLEX Corporation said the Third Candaba Viaduct will provide additional lanes on both sides of the expressway, improving traffic flow and reinforcing the two original Candaba Viaducts, which have been in service for nearly 50 years.
The project’s timely completion is crucial as it will enhance the NLEX’s capacity to accommodate the increasing number of vehicles, especially during peak travel seasons.
