Tarlac provincial council endorses SB 2647 to boost economic growth
The Provincial Government of Tarlac has officially expressed its support for Senate Bill No. 2647, which aims to extend the term and expand the capabilities of the Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA).
According to Tarlac Vice Governor Carlito S. David, the Sangguniang Panlalawigan passed Resolution No. 289-2024 in July, solidifying the province’s endorsement of the proposed legislation.
David emphasized that the bill, once enacted, will play a crucial role in generating quality jobs and promoting inclusive economic development.
“The BCDA was established to transform former military bases into premier centers of economic growth, which can significantly uplift the lives of Filipinos,” he said, referencing the council’s statement.
The resolution highlighted the longstanding partnership between the Tarlac provincial government and BCDA, particularly in the development of New Clark City.
David also commended BCDA for the progress in New Clark City, noting how it has already spurred economic activities that are transforming the lives of Tarlac’s residents.
Senate Bill No. 2647 seeks to amend Republic Act 7227 to extend BCDA’s corporate term. The bill outlines several key provisions, including support for affordable housing, military pension funds, and increased investor confidence, both local and foreign.
The Tarlac Provincial Council, through its resolution, affirmed its alignment with the national government’s agenda to create dynamic business centers and sustainable communities. The council said they believe that this approach will revitalize industries, generate jobs, and drive inclusive economic growth. (JYD)
