Tarlac farmers learn tomato processing skills from DTI
20 members of the Magao Ortilano Modernong Magsasakang Association (MOMMA) in Concepcion, Tarlac learned tomato processing through a skills training recently conducted by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).
This initiative is part of DTI’s Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program, aimed at empowering agrarian reform beneficiaries through business development support. DTI Tarlac Trade Industry Development Specialist Paolo Manese emphasized the importance of the training, noting its potential to enhance the productivity and income of the farmer-beneficiaries.
“We recognized the potential of the tomatoes produced by the group, which led us to focus on this specific training. Their new skills and dedication can significantly contribute to the success of their association,” Manese explained.
During the training, participants learned how to process tomatoes into various products such as jam, sauce, and ketchup. The initiative aims to add value to their produce and develop innovative products that can generate additional income for the farmers.
MOMMA President Efren Puno expressed his gratitude for the training, highlighting the positive impact it will have on their farming community. “Happiness is the only word that can explain what we are feeling right now. Thank you for seeing our potential, and we promise to work hard to make our tomato product business successful,” Puno said.
The DTI has been actively supporting various sectors, including farmers, through a series of seminars and training programs designed to ensure the growth and sustainability of local businesses. Previously, the agency trained the members of Aduas Multipurpose Cooperative in Paniqui on processing sweet potato-based products.
The DTI remains committed to helping farmers in Tarlac and other provinces enhance their skills and increase their economic opportunities through sustainable business practices.
