SEC, TSU sign partnership to strengthen financial literacy campaign

The Securities and Exchange Commission- Tarlac Extension Office (SEC-TAREO) has partnered with Tarlac State University (TSU) to pursue a common interest in promoting financial literacy and investor protection advocacies under the SEC Communication, Advocacy, and Network (SEC-CAN) Project.

SEC Tarlac Extension Office Director Atty. Richard R. Laus and TSU Vice President (VP) for Academic Affairs Dr. Agnes M. Macaraeg signed a memorandum of agreement to formalize this partnership on February 21, 2023 at TSU Main Campus in Tarlac City.

Under this agreement, SEC-TAREO and TSU through its College of Business and Accountancy (CBA) will boost the campaign against investment scams and raise awareness on business and capital markets, financial literacy and smart and sustainable investing.

“The SEC is currently establishing effective linkages, communications and collaborative activities with all stakeholders on investor education, with a view of establishing and sustaining a continuing program aimed at strengthening the presence of SEC and promoting sustainable and inclusive economic growth,” Director Laus said.

Since its establishment in 2012, the TSU has been an active partner of the SEC-TAREO in various educational seminars, trainings and internship programs, and this collaboration will strengthen with the signing of the agreement between these two institutions.

Meanwhile, VP Macaraeg expressed her message of gratitude to SEC for its loyalty to TSU as the first state university in Regions II and III to be part of the SEC-CAN initiative.

“We are grateful for your loyalty. Rest assured that because you believe in us, here at TSU, you will be in good hands as we will serve as your partner towards the goodness of your advocacy,” VP Macaraeg said.

Through information dissemination, promotion, and knowledge and resource sharing, the SEC-CAN advocacies will highlight topics on the fundamentals of investing, financial literacy and investor protection.

Also present during the signing ceremony were SEC Securities Specialist II Atty. Charito P. Bañez-Santiago, TSU Presidential Assistant Dr. Brigido B. Corpuz and CBA Dean Dr. Jhonel C. Panlilio.
