Pimentel, hinimok si Escudero na simulan na ang impeachment trial laban kay VP Sara
Hinihimok ngayon ni Senate Minority Leader Koko Pimentel si Senate President Francis “Chiz” Escudero na simulan na ang impeachment trial laban kay Vice President Sara Duterte.
Matatandaang iniakyat na sa Senado ang kaso laban sa Pangalawang Pangulo matapos makakuha ng kaukulang pirma sa House of Representatives (HoR).
Sa sulat na ipinadala ni Pimentel kay Escudero noong Biyernes, February 14, binigyang-diin niya na nakasaad umano sa Konstitusyon na ang Senado ay may mandato na mag-“forthwith proceed” sa isang impeachment trial kapag ang beripikadong reklamo o resolution of impeachment ay inihain ng at least one-third ng lahat ng miyembro ng Kongreso.
“The Filipino translation for ‘forthwith’ is ‘agad’ which conveys immediacy. The synonyms of this Filipino word include ‘madali,’ ‘bigla,’ ‘dagli,’ or ‘karakaraka’ which denote urgency or promptness. The above elaboration affirms that it is the Senate’s duty to act on the impeachment case of Vice President Sara Duterte ‘without any delay’ or ‘without interval of time,’” saad ng naturang senador sa kanyang sulat.
“I repeat that this is the Senate’s duty. Given the gravity of impeachment proceedings, it is imperative that the Senate uphold its duty with urgency, diligence, and a steadfast commitment to the Constitution. I appreciate your prompt attention to this matter and look forward to your response,” dagdag pa niya.
Matatandaang noong February 5 nang maghain ng impeachment complaint ang Kongreso laban kay VP Sara dahil umano sa betrayal of public trust, paglabag sa konstitusyon, at graft and corruption. Nasa 215 na mambabatas mula sa mababang kapulungan ang pumirma at sumuporta sa complaint na ito.
Samantala, una nang inanunsyo ni Escudero na posibleng magsimula ang pagdinig ng Senado ukol dito pagkatapos ng State of the Nation Address (SONA) sa July 28 o sa pagpasok ng 19th Congress. Nag-adjourn ang Senado noong February 5, ilang oras matapos maaprubahan ng Kongreso ang impeachment complaint. #
