PhilHealth launches expanded kidney treatment coverage
Underscoring the Administration’s commitment to improving services for Filipinos undergoing medical treatment, President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. visits patients at the National Kidney Transplant Institute (NKTI) on the occasion of the launch of the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation’s (PhilHealth) benefit package for adult and pediatric post-kidney transplant patients in Diliman, Quezon City on June 19, 2025.
Upon arrival, the President greets the patients at the Hemodialysis Center and Hemodialysis Center Extension. He is set to meet post-kidney transplant patients afterwards.
PhilHealth reaffirms its support for NKTI patients by enhancing benefits for members with chronic kidney disease (CKD) stage 5. These improvements include expanding hemodialysis sessions from 90 to 156 annually, increasing coverage for the Z Benefit Package for peritoneal dialysis up to ₱1.2 million, and raising the Z Benefit coverage for kidney transplantation from ₱600,000 to ₱2 million.
PhilHealth also notes a significant increase in the use of the hemodialysis benefit package, with payments totaling ₱161 million for this procedure alone — making it the top-paid medical procedure covered by PhilHealth in 2024.
