NCCT Launches the Comprehensive Media Program for Children in Celebration of Its 27th Anniversary

Manila, Philippines – October 18, 2024 – The National Council for Children’s Television (NCCT), established under Republic Act No. 8370 or the “Children’s Television Act of 1997,” proudly unveils its Comprehensive Media Program for Children (CMPC) in celebration of its 27th anniversary.

For over two decades, the NCCT, an attached agency of the Department of Education, has championed child-friendly media in the Philippines, ensuring that Filipino children are exposed to high-quality content that fosters their development. The newly launched CMPC is a testament to this commitment, as it provides a holistic framework that will serve as the foundation for all NCCT efforts and other related government agencies in developing programs and initiatives that impact children and media.

This program is a significant milestone for the NCCT, aligning with its mandate under RA 8370 to promote child-friendly television and media programming that enhances the moral values and national identity of Filipino children. Through the CMPC, the NCCT will not only bolster its current initiatives but will also guide all future program development, ensuring a cohesive and comprehensive approach to the welfare of children in the media landscape.

NCCT Executive Director, Daisy Atienza, highlighted the program’s far-reaching implications, stating, “The CMPC is more than just a program—it is a guiding framework that will influence and shape all future initiatives of the NCCT and other relevant agencies. By aligning with Ambisyon Natin 2040, we are taking bold steps to ensure that our children grow up in a media environment that nurtures critical thinking, positive values, and a sense of national pride.”

The CMPC is structured into three strategic pillars:

  1. Pagtatag (Strengthening) which focuses on enhancing internal operations, empowering NCCT personnel, and updating Republic Act 8370, which governs the organization’s mandate.
  2. Paglaganap (Expansion) ensures the promotion, monitoring, and improvement of child-friendly media, as well as research-driven initiatives on child development.
  3. Pagtaguyod (Advocacy) unites content creators and stakeholders across sectors to ensure a collaborative and inclusive approach to fulfilling the vision of child-friendly media.

These pillars, supported by eight strategic objectives, will not only direct the NCCT’s programs but will also serve as a model for other governmental and non-governmental agencies in crafting policies and projects related to children and media. The NCCT calls upon content creators, media platforms, educators, and policymakers to integrate this framework into their efforts, ensuring a unified approach in addressing the needs and welfare of Filipino children.

As part of its 27th Anniversary, the NCCT will also launch new Children’s Television and Child-Friendly Television Programs, along with recognizing NCCT-compliant broadcast television networks.

With the CMPC in place, the NCCT urges all stakeholders to embrace this framework as the foundation for creating a media environment that truly nurtures Filipino children.
