MCWMC: Kalangitan Sanitary Landfill to Remain Open in October; Garbage Collection Continues

The Kalangitan Sanitary Landfill, located in Capas, Tarlac, is set to remain operational beyond October 2024, contrary to earlier reports suggesting the termination of Metro Clark Waste Management Corporation's (MCWMC) contract due to planned development initiatives by the Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) for New Clark City.

Victoria Gaetos, Executive Vice President of MCWMC, clarified that only the exclusivity clause of the contract is set to expire in October. This clarification comes amidst provisions outlined in RA 7652, or the Investors' Lease Act, and EO 429 of 1997, which stipulate a 50-year lease period for MCWMC.

The presence of both foreign and local investors within Metro Clark enables them to continue garbage collection services for local government units (LGUs) even after the lease agreement expires.

The MCWMC remains committed to ensuring the continuity of waste management operations at Kalangitan Sanitary Landfill, underscoring its role in environmental sustainability efforts in the region.
