Left warns public about destab plot, calls it a battle between the elites
The Partido ng Manggagawang Pilipino (PMP) has warned the public about a possible destabilization plot that they called “a battle between the elites”.
In a statement released on the first day of December, PMP said they have received intelligence reports saying the plans to foil the current administration are being maneuvered by the China-backed Duterte camp.
While the information is yet to be confirmed with state agents, PMP said this only amplifies the ongoing rift between dominant political factions in the country–and mirrors the conflict between the world’s superpowers US and China.
“Pinapakita nito na ang independent foreign policy ay hindi isusulong ng sinumang kampo ng mga elitista, na hindi magdadalawang-isip na maging pawn kapag mahinog na ang “proxy war” ng Estados Unidos at Tsina,” the statement read.
Citing Gat Andres Bonificio’s struggle against the colonization, PMP insisted the advancement of the country’s independent interest and the solution to the present crisis lies in the hands of the proletariat–and not on those who support the US nor China.
The labor party also encouraged the masses, especially the organized sectors, to uphold their independent interest to achieve genuine change.
“Ang kailangan ay rebolusyon, hindi destabilisasyon. Ang dapat na resulta, kapag nahinog sa krisis pampulitika ang alitan ng mga naghaharing uri, ay hindi lamang regime change kundi social change,” PMP’s statement ended.
A call for just and lasting peace
Citing the circulating reports about the destabilization plot, Bayan Muna Chair Atty. Neri Colmenares called on government bodies including the Armed Forces of the Philippines and the Philippine National Police to desist from doing this as he said it will only worsen the situation of the country.
The group also welcomed “with guarded optimism” the resumption of peace negotiations between the Government of the Philippines and the National Democratic Front of the Philippines.
“The Filipino people want a just and lasting peace by addressing the roots of the conflict. Let’s give peace a chance. The Filipino people want a just and lasting peace, the Filipino people need a just and lasting peace,” Colmenares said.
Former Congressman Carlos Zarate, executive vice president of Bayan Muna, said he hopes the peace talks will continue until both parties reach an agreement to address the root cause of the armed conflict.
