Flood-resilient infra completed in Bataan to support farmers, food security

BALANGA CITY (PIA) — Farmers and residents of Barangay Ala-uli in Pilar, Bataan now gain enhanced protection from seasonal flooding following the completion of a slope protection project by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).
The ₱9.6-million project, funded under the 2024 national budget, involved the construction of a 157-lineal-meter concrete revetment and the installation of pipe culverts along Magsaysay Dam.
The initiative aims to prevent soil erosion, safeguard vital infrastructure, and improve irrigation efficiency for farmlands in the area.
DPWH Bataan 2nd District Engineer Roland Rainier Victorino said the project will help ensure a stable and reliable irrigation system, essential for the livelihood of local farmers.
“The area depends heavily on an efficient irrigation system, and in recent years, recurring slope erosion and instability have disrupted water flow and negatively affected crop productivity. This structure will ensure steady water delivery, enhance water retention, and minimize sediment buildup in irrigation channels,” Victorino emphasized.
The project supports the administration’s goal of strengthening agricultural productivity and building resilient rural communities.
By protecting farmlands from erosion and flooding, the infrastructure helps promote food security and sustain the economic activities of farmers in the region. (CLJD/RPQ, PIA Region 3-Bataan)
