Taiwan supports Filipino arts and migrants in vibrant Taipei Carnival
The vibrant heart of Taipei pulsed with energy, unity, and cultural pride as the Asia Carnival – Beyond Borders, Asia United unfolded at the Taipei 101 Water Dance Plaza. Organized by the Asia Taiwanese Chambers of Commerce (ASTCC), in partnership with the Department of Economic Development, Taipei City Government, and Taipei 101, the event was brought together by Taiwanese business communities across Asia for a day of cultural celebration and mutual solidarity.
Among the most meaningful contributors was the Taiwan Association Inc. Philippines (TAP), the representative organization of the Taiwanese business community in the Philippines. Led by President Mr. Tom Lin. TAP’s participation not only showcased Filipino talent but also reaffirmed a deep commitment to the well-being of Filipino migrant workers in Taiwan.
Honoring Filipino Culture & Uplifting Migrant Voices
With a strong spirit of solidarity and service, TAP highlighted Filipino identity through artistic expression, cultural celebration, and charity support—three pillars that resonated powerfully with both local and international audiences.
TAP proudly sponsored a booth for Filipino sand artist Mario Subeldia, a migrant worker in Taiwan whose live sand art performances captivated visitors with moving visual narratives of migration, sacrifice, and perseverance. His work offered a heartfelt tribute to the migrant experience, allowing art to speak where words often fall short.
TAP also supported HUGYAW Mananayaw, a dynamic dance troupe composed of Filipino students in Taiwan. Their vibrant performance—fusing traditional Filipino folk dances with modern flair—mesmerized the audience and celebrated the resilience, passion, and rich storytelling of Filipino culture through movement and rhythm.
In a gesture of deep compassion, TAP donated NT$150,000 (Approx. PHP 285,000), equally distributed among three Filipino-focused organizations in Taiwan dedicated to the care and empowerment of migrant workers:
- HUGYAW Mananayaw – Promoting Filipino heritage and youth engagement through performing arts.
- Ugnayan Migrant and Immigrant Mission Center – Offering shelter, legal assistance, skills training, and pastoral support in partnership with OWWA Taiwan.
- Stella Maris Seafarers and Migrant Workers Center – Providing emergency housing, legal mediation, counseling, and humanitarian aid to migrants in distress.
Each organization received NT$50,000 to further their mission of uplifting and protecting overseas Filipinos through cultural development, advocacy, and social services.
The donation ceremony was formally witnessed by Atty. Cheloy E. Velicaria-Garafil, MNSA, Chairperson, Minister of Labor Hung, Sun-Han, and Legislator Lin, Chuyin. Their joint presence symbolized the strong diplomatic and people-to-people ties between Taiwan and the Philippines, while reaffirming both governments’ dedication to the well-being of Filipino communities in Taiwan.
Strengthening Bridges Between Nations
Through its meaningful participation, the Taiwan Association Inc. Philippines demonstrated the enduring spirit of friendship between Taiwan and the Philippines. More than just a sponsor, TAP served as a living bridge—connecting two nations through shared values, cultural appreciation, and collective compassion.
The Asia Carnival was more than a festival. It became a platform of hope, unity, and empowerment—a celebration of cultural richness and a reminder that collaboration across borders can transform lives when rooted in genuine care for people.
